To cilantro or not to cilantro?

To cilantro or not to cilantro? Cilantro is an herb that is either adored by those whom love it or it is highly disliked by others. Me personally; I adore cilantro! This fragrant herb is a flavor contributor to many of my recipes. It adds…

When you see a bottle of Pinot Gris does a more familiar wine come to mind? Such as, Pinot Grigio? If so, that is ok! You are not too far off as they are both from the same white grape variety, however, they are different.…

Hey, there!

Hey, there!

Welcome to Southern Vine, my friend! I am Ashlie, and I am so happy that you are here! Southern Vine is a combination of faith, family, friends, and southern comfort dishes that have been inspired by my family and my overall love for comfort food. I come from a family of amazing home cooks. I even married a good cook! So, don’t be surprised if you see my family pop up in my content from time to time. My husband and I are from South Texas and we have a lot of animals that we care for, along with a small cattle operation. I am living out a simple life with the love of my life and I look forward to sharing pieces of our lifestyle with you through Southern Vine!

Moreover, my passion for cooking began when I was a little girl. I was always in the kitchen with my mom, dad, aunts or grandmother. I can still hear the sizzle of chicken frying in a pan along with my grandmother’s contagious laugh as she prepared meals for her family. Food has always been more than an essential to me; in my world food is a love language. When I cook or bake, it may sound a bit cliche, but the main ingredient truly is love because that was the example I saw growing up. My family has always made meals from their hearts and I am happy to carry on that tradition.

Not only will I share recipes, but I will be taking you with me on a journey to learn and grow in the kitchen, garden, and in faith. I am surrounded by people in my life that are very knowledgable in gardening, landscaping, ranching, grilling, bread making, fishing, bee keeping, and much more! Locally sourced ingredients are important to me. Understanding where we are gathering our food from and what we are creating our dishes with matters, in my opinion. Cooking or baking with fresh ingredients only to leave people with big smiles is so satisfying to my soul. My overall goal is to share my experiences and gained knowledge with you!

I think it is worth noting that recipes don’t have to be complicated to be delicious! My recipes are for everyone; whether you are just learning how to cook or you have been cooking for years. I’m not all about complicating the kitchen. I believe that the kitchen should be a fun space full of love, laughter, and good food.

By the way, if you love pasta, you have come to the right place!

“We should think about each other to see how we can encourage each other to show love and do good works.” Hebrews 10:24

The Garden Found Me

The Garden Found Me

Generations of green thumbs run on both sides of my family. My grandparents, parents, aunts, and uncles. I didn’t think I inherited that family gene, especially since I had somehow managed to kill a cactus in South Texas; can you relate? Haha! I had almost…
